One of the best ways to learn more about your career field and your options is through an externship. Externships are job shadowing opportunities in which you can observe someone who is in your field of choice. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about career paths and to seek advice which you can use to assist in your own career planning. Externships can assist you with increasing your networking contacts and can create leads for potential internships or full-time jobs in the future.
For each program, the application process begins in the Fall semester; and typically, the externships occur during Winter Break. The externship hosts include Lehigh alumni and corporate partners. Student applicants are matched up with their hosts in November, and students and hosts are notified after Thanksgiving Break of the placements. You can also seek out your own externship. Schedule an appointment with a career counselor to learn more!
